Pantone 2014 Color of the Year: Radiant Orchard

For over a decade, the Pantone Color Institute has scoured the world looking for the color influences dominant in popular culture. They carefully consider different sources of inspiration, including films, traveling art productions, the entertainment industry, and popular travel destinations to determine the color of the year. The Pantone color of the year helps influence product development and purchasing decisions in a number of industries, but it is particularly influential for the beauty, fashion, and interior decorating industries.

Before the color of the year is announced, many industry experts announce their predictions. This year, jewelry trends and style expert, Lorraine DePasque, initially predicted that Dazzling Blue would be the 2014 choice, before changing her prediction to Radiant Orchid in September. And she was right!

The Pantone 2014 color of the year is Radiant Orchid. The Pantone website charmingly describes the color as  “bloom(ing) with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination”. The color is also supposed to embody and emanate great joy, love, and health. Doesn’t that sound like a color you’d love to accentuate an outfit with?

Radiant Orchid has already showed up on red carpets. Most notably at the November premiere of The Hunger Games, where Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior dress perfectly captured the purple tones of next year’s radiant color (although it may not have left much to the imagination).

For all the jewelry lovers who want to add the Pantone color of the year to their wardrobe, tourmaline is a beautiful gem that captures the Radiant Orchid color.  We’re partial to the tourmaline and diamond pendant featured in the image for this post, but another gorgeous choice is amethyst, which is commonly recognized as the February birthstone.

We’re excited to see how Radiant Orchid inspires the jewelry designs of 2014, and we’re already starting to speculate on what the 2015 color of the year will be!
