The biggest names in Hollywood turned out for the fashion extravaganza that is the Met Gala. The annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute benefit gala is one of the biggest nights for fashion, and one where guests are expected to use their outfits to showcase their artistic sense. This year, the Met Gala benefitted the opening of the Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between exhibition in New York City. From Katy Perry’s red lace veil to Blake Lively’s beaded feather gown, attendees took a cue from Kawakubo’s avant garde design style.
Of course, as with any star-studded event, we were anxious to see what the celebs would pull out of their jewelry boxes, or secure through their favorite jeweler. At an event like the Met Gala, creativity is key and we were not disappointed.
While most of the attendees preferred to let their clothes take the spotlight, some expertly paired a few pieces with their outfits. Our favorite jewelry looks from the night were rapper Nicki Minaj, actress Laura Dern, singer Janelle Monáe, ET correspondent Carly Steel, and actress Katie Holmes. Monáe has proved her fashion prowess time and again, but her Met Gala look was the perfect marriage of art and design. Steel’s bejeweled crown headpiece was a daring look completely on par with the A-list celebrities she was assigned to interview. Dern’s understated gold necklace complemented her deep blue gown without taking away from the cut and style. Katie Holmes’ diamond earring and necklace combination carried her dark and sultry look to a whole new level, and Minaj’s vamp-y vibe was perfectly set off by stacks of bracelets and long chandelier earrings.
